Which Of The Greek Gods Are You ?? Thursday. 10 June. 2004. Got a GMail Account. Thanx to Shantz babaji. Babaji ne pucha. To apan bole haanji kyon nahi. Sahi hai. But gmail is definitely still buggy. Definitely Tuesday. 8 June. 2004. 2 Papers got accepted at ICSLP 2004, Jeju Korea. Check out Publications for some details. I guess my hardwork always pays back around June every year. But ofcourse it comes with more tragedy. Lets see if i am able to get some funding to attend this conference. Last time.. you know. Monday. 7 June. 2004. Got a new "Hair Cut". Thats the second pic up on the side panel on the index page. Sunday. 6 June. 2004. Started some blogging. Check out What am i today ??? Tuesday. 18 May. 2004. Went ahead further on Bharat Darshan. Occasion was Pranjali's wedding with Ponnu and we got our much awaited reason to go to Mumbai. So in Pune for 1 day and 2 days and 2 nights in Mumbai. Saw Mumbaiya life much more closely this time (didnt do much during my only 1 earlier visit to Mumbai). And damn i am jealous of the mumbaiya people. They got great assets in that place. Anyway ... you cant get everything everywhere. So lets see where to next. Meanwhile Apache Indian is coming to Hyderabad on Saturday and lets see if i attend the show or not. Depends on lots. But quite probable. And yes, met Manbinder Paaji yesterday and went around his office. Got some new pics (yeah Shimla Trip). Will be putting up soon. Monday. 03 May. 2004. Ah!! Quite some news. Submitted couple of paper last month. Check out the publications page for briefs. Been to home. Was in 4 different cities/towns in 7 day trip of which i was in train for 3 days. Went to Chandigarh, Noida, Gurgaon and New Delhi. Met a of old friends and couldn't meet a lot more of them. Anyway had a nice time in NOIDA particularly where a lot of PECobians got together on the occasion of two of our hostel mates getting an admit to MDU, Gurgaon. Congrats to Lochab and Sachin. Spent the last day at ELITEX 2004 in New Delhi held in India Habitat Center. Nice event, nice venue. Lot of big shots were there. And ofcourse the talk went to attend turned out to be just OK OK. Anyway saw demo of Prologix's TTS and they have done a good work. Meanwhile, got back and catching up to lot of things happening here. Summer Interns coming in. I have 2 students from IIIT and 5 from REC Warangal and 1 from IIT Kharagpur as off now. So will be busy this month with their projects. Also got a lot of work to complete this moth. Also lots of things happening. Got rejects from the universities i applied to. BAD. Ah!! Whatever. Lots of other things in the making. So LIFE is GOOD. Tomorrow their is performance by EUPHORIA in Hyderabad. Will be attending that. And going to Pune/Mumbai on weekend. And yeah i have updated the movies page. More news on return. Tuesday. 16. March. 2004. We had R&D Showcase in the institute on last weekend. You can check out the pictures here. And also had a Workshop on Excitement of Research couple of weeks back. Gave nine presentation in 2 days and had to give a talk on the Second day again. Hectic is what i call this. Anyway, got an invite to Oracle Party (thanks to my senior in that company). Had pretty good fun there. Dance, Daru, Dinner and more. Also we got LTRC T-Shirts printed (take a peep). Nicey Dicey ones, eh !!! Yes.. bought a cell. Yeah the tumor is coming. Tuesday. 24. February. 2004 Long time no updates. There is lots to update about. Have been doing a lot of running around. Officially as well as unofficially. More of great experiences. Visited Bangalore for interacting with PICOPETA team more on technical issues and some what on organization and partnership issue. Learnt a lot of new things and integrated TTS with an Indian Language Notepad Application "Bhasha" they have developed. More so to get an idea of issue involved in such integrations. Also went to the Bryan Adams show in Bangalore around those days. My first international level LIVE show. Something to tell to the kids. It was Great. People packed up in the densest packing configuration. Had me remember the molecular packing formulae from Intermediate Chemistry. But only before BA was on Stage. Yudi set the stage by pumping the crowd to shout out to BRYAN. And it was too good. And then the God himself was there. Had a blast. Jumping, Shouting, Dancing and getting Crazy with the Best Crowd of the Nation of 100 Crores. In between have been to Goa and Pune on some quick trips on weekends. Went to one of the funkiest Trance Party i have seen. Had a shaky night (almost). And ofcourse had a great Valentine's day. Party in Central University. We sat and chorused to the songs to the songs being played. It was great fun. And meanwhile:: Work >> I am working on a really cool idea (atleast i think so). Dont wanna say a lot about it. People start shouting. So will post more of it once it is completed (almost through). Also some good things in the completion stages in Speech Lab though once i put others to do some work it definitely take much more time than i would have taken if i'd done it myself. Anyhow i cant do everything. Thinking of buying a Cell (mundane things of life). Will do this weekend. And also some Tax headache needs to be solved. Financial year end is coming. Wednesday. 14. January. 2004 Holiday today throughout INDIA. Lots of exciting things since last news entry. Visited Mysore, Bangalore, Bhubneswar for conferences and had a good time (and not so good time in Bhubneswar). Then new year time followed by my Birthday. Went to Indian Ocean's performance in Hyde. recently and have been at the Asian IT Ministers Summit for the last 2 days. Having great experiences. Wednesday. 17. December. 2003 Leaving for couple of conferences today evening. Will be back in office on 27th. You can still catch me on mail. Sunday. 30. November. 2003 Participated in the Hyderabad 10K Run. On of the patrons on stage very correctly said, "It is a wonderful way to spend a Sunday". It was good. Met a PEC CSE Senior there. As they say "Where there is one PECobian you will certainly find more" Working on Visual Speech Synthesis. Collected a corpus today. In Between: Got to meet Prof. Swami Manohar (Simputer Fame) and Mr. Krishna Bharat (Google News fame) when they came to IIIT Couple of friends from PEC have joined DRDO in Hyderabad. So got a some people to hang out with on weekends Tuesday. 04. November. 2003 Back from home. Had a great time with all the friends together again. OK GRE Scores are here: Got 4.5 in Writing and 1350 in the rest. Also TOEFL was in between somewhere and got 293 of 300 in that. So will be sending my applications for Ph.D. around 10 November. I am leading an effort to build Font Convertors for Text to Speech Systems for Indian Languages so as to support all the commonly used fonts. Also i am working on coming up with a Visual Speech Synthesis System. Will be calling students for some projects around after November 15. Monday. 06. October. 2003 One of the papers has been accepted at ICON 2003. So its like work pays back somewhere or the other. Check out publications. It is the same paper as the one accepted at IRI 2003 i.e. Non Native Pronunciation Lexicon building using a Rule based approach. Got some really nice reviews. Will be presenting it in December 2003. Also will be visiting home from 19th to 26th October. So it will be slightly cut off. Always reachable at 0172 - 714809. Diwali Holidays and got to finish off some work at college - Transcripts etc. Got to present a paper day after tomorrow at C. A. L. T. S., University of Hyderabad. And tomorrow is TOEFL. BTW: GRE was last month. Got 1350 out of 1600 i.e. Quantitative + Verbal. Expecting the final written scores soon. Saturday. 13. September. 2003, Two papers of mine submitted to CIT Bhubneshwar have been accepted for poster presentation. One of the papers is on Deepti, the hindi speaking CTC, which was a project during my sixth semester (way back) and i wrote a paper on it in May 2003. The other paper is about the design of my the system developed in my minor project (7th semester). This paper was written around February 2003 and i wanted to send it to a student paper presentation in PEC. But decided not to, because i figured they wouldn't appreciate. Anyhow they always give the prizes to the girls. Like always, there is good news but its always with strings attached. Anyhow, its conference in India an i can afford to register for it on my. So i ll attend this one. Saturday. 9. August. 2003. I have been selected for being awarded the IEEE Computer Society Richard E. Merwin Student Scholarship for the year 2003 - 04. For details of the scholarship you can visit http://www.computer.org/students/schlrshp.htm Also one of the papers got accepted at and IEEE sponsored conference (IRI 2003). The work on this paper was done during my final semester at PEC and it aims at developing a Rule based approach to reuse the information available in existing pronunciation lexicon along with some rule set so as to come up with non - native variants of the lexicon. A hybrid method of building the rules based on manual as well as example based approach has been proposed. Wednesday. 30. July. 2003. Latest news about me as you can see from these updated pages is that i have joined IIIT Hyderabad as a research scientist and moved my web pages to this page. Most of pages here have content from the old site filled into the new templates The old pages are still available at http://www.geocities.com/rohitofpec/ but no more updates on them now on (probably) Its going to take me another year in building up the page rank for this site to as high as the one i have the old site. July. 2003 I have received the highest score in the class for Final semester major project. This confirm that i ll be receiving the Silver Medal from the Computer Science Department. The medal will be awarded at the time of our convocation which is generally in March of the year following completion of graduation. Along with this news, we have also come to know that my final semester result has been declared. And i have scored around 75% which is nearly what i was expecting. < FROM OLD PAGES > Friday. Group. Will be making further updates to this sites soon. A paper on my Minor Project got accepted at CITA 2003, Malaysia. The work describes a framework for developing system for automated generation of spoken news content for existing news service providers. But its like everything has **conditions apply to it. My college will not sponsor me to the conference and if i dont register the paper will not be included in conference proceeding. So cant help it. I am sure the paper will get accepted in some Indian conference which i can afford to attend. For much older news you can
